Draft patch to close bug

Here it is. Round 1, fire away with your comments. Patch does:

- makes --without-ssl the default, and changes description to tell user they
only need SSL for non-MD5 digests

- moves digest computation code into separate file and modifies Makefile to
incorporate it

- adds MD5 computation code from Christophe Devine (thanks!) and modifies
Makefile and digest.c to incorporate it

- modifies new-unpack.c to use digest.c for digest verification

- Makefile modifications are done so that other modules that need digest
verification can be easily accomodated
