hi,

i set up sendmail sendmail-8.12.5 using the sendmail docs, it works
fine.

considering the hint:
* what i wouldnt do is the
        define(`confMANGRP',`root')
        define(`confMANOWN',`root')
        define(`confSBINGRP',`root')
        define(`confUBINGRP',`root')
        define(`confUBINOWN',`root')
part of the hint. sendmail doesnt use a different user and group
(smmsp:smmsp) without reason.

building and installing according to the hint should work up to the "sh
Build install" part.
what you may need to do thereafter is:

chown root:smmsp /usr/sbin/sendmail
chown smmsp:smmsp /var/spool/clientmqueue
chmod 0770 /var/spool/clientmqueue
chmod g+s /usr/sbin/sendmail

this should work nicely after creating the necessary config files. i
hope i didnt forget anything.

cheers,
guenter
