This is due to the way that /etc/mtab and/or  /etc/fstab are symlinked.
There's plenty of info in the archives on this, and there's even an mtab
hint at http://hints.linuxfromscratch.org which I think solves your
particular problem (I'm not entirely sure on that one though).
