For the record, I regularly build in the chroot. There are no
problems with doing this except if you want to install the official
NVidia drivers and your running kernel doesn't match your kernel built
in the chroot. This is because the NVidia drivers try to build against
and install into /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/... (This can be overridden 
if you read the readme, but personally I just leave that one package 
until I've rebooted.)

Maybe that clears up a few myths?
