[blfs-support] Missing cursor in text (console) mode - revisited

Hi Bruce:

I'm wondering if the above grub-1.99 is of the "Grub-1" variety

No. That was grub-0.97 (grub-legacy). I don't think that ever advanced.

I don't feel up to GRUB 2 yet.

I recommend using the version/procedures in LFS-7.3.
The only issue on intel architecture would be /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
If you want, we can discuss that.

I think LFS-7.3 covers GRUB 2, which as I said I'm not interested (yet)
for a few reasons:

1. My 'menu.lst' (i.e., the "grub.cfg" of grub-0.97) is shamefully simple
( ...
  root (hd0,2)
  kernel /boot/LFSkernel root=/dev/sda3).

No 128 partitions like I see linux aficionados use nowadays
(for example, thread "moving lfs", post 2013-03-20 19:04:23 GMT)
Just one lousy primary partition (which works fine, to my amazement).
No other stressful requirements of a "grub" now and in the foreseeable
future. I'll stay with BLFS.

2. Obsolete and limited as the "legacy" grub might be, it has done
a competent job on the other (520) "good" drive (including displaying
the friggin' cursor when people need it).

3. There must exist (one would think) at least a patch of 0.97 (if not
a full source release) which covers bug #28011 of 13 Nov 2009 that
somebody reported to have been Fixed and Closed (!).

Thank you very much for your help,
-- Alex
