Below follows a list of all the packages that you will need to download
in order to build a basic Linux system. The listed version numbers
correspond to versions of the software that are known to work.
This book is based on those versions.
If you download a newer version of some package and experience problems
that you can't solve yourself, then please download the precise version
listed in this book.
All the URL's below refer to the Linux-From-Scratch server.
But there are several FTP mirrors available from which you can download
the files as well. The addresses of these can be found in
The LFS FTP archive only contains the versions of the packages that
are used in this book. You can check the official download sites given
in to determine whether a newer package
has become available. If you do download a newer package, we would
appreciate hearing whether you were able to install the package without
any fault using this book's instructions, or not.
Note that all files downloaded from the LFS FTP archive are
compressed with bzip2 instead of gz. If you don't know how to
handle bz2 files yet, check out .
