Of course if readelf doesn't work from /tools/bin you'll need to use
readelf from the host, probably in /usr/bin

/usr/bin/readelf -e /tools/bin/ls | grep interp

Most likely the binaries won't run because the /tools link is missing or
the interpreter is missing.
